Turning
to the physical department of the work, the report chronicled the formation
of a Boating Club and a Football Club, which latter, under the superintendence
of Mr. W. G. Carn, as captain, and Mr. P. Salisbury, as honorary secretary,
promised to become a success. Though encouraging the physical as highly
important, the committee wished it to be thoroughly understood that this,
as well as the social and intellectual features, only occupies a secondary
position in their policy, the chief object aimed at being the spiritual
welfare of young men; the building up and strengthening in the faith of
those already in the kingdom, and the winning to Christ of "those
that oppose themselves," or were indifferent to their souls' best
interests. |
